Humanica is an ancient settlement game that follows the development of human beings and their survival, expansion, and technology. Paleolithic: gather resources, create tools, build shelters, and eventually move to farming, iron tools, and complex production systems. Plus, as you progress through eras, you’ll find new mechanics and challenges are introduced, altering your gameplay. With increasing population numbers, you need to control the food, clothing, housing, and efficiency of your workers to ensure the stability of your settlement. Furthermore, the mixture of survival mechanics and urban construction contributes to the game’s rewarding nature of strategic planning and development.

In addition, every day in the game counts – there are only a couple of things to do per turn. As you wander the hex map, you find animals, seeds, and resources to help grow your civilization. The terrain editing system lets you edit terrains and defensive regions for an optimum settlement layout, while the editor will also let you create more detailed defensive areas. This blend of exploration, terraforming, and city management makes the game a captivating experience for extended periods of play.

Furthermore, there is always the danger of attack from wild or hostile animals and enemies, and walls and fortifications must be built to protect your settlement. While the graphics are calming, the laws, planning, and allocation of the resources of the game still pose a challenge. Humanica offers a rewarding experience of prehistoric city building with a solid strategy and steady progression, resulting from this.
