DuckTales: Remastered

DuckTales: Remastered is a niche revival of the classic NES game written in 8-bit. It is a challenge platformer and adventure game at its core that has been given a new look using beautifully hand-drawn cartoon animations. The entire original cast provides the voice acting. The game has been updated with a lot of modern refinements that both pay tribute to the original and serve to bring it to a new generation of players. The gameplay is still based on the brilliant core loop of the 1989 version: you take on the role of Scrooge McDuck, who is traveling the world looking for five legendary treasures.

Along the way, he uses his trusted pogo cane to hit the enemies off and to get across the different non-linear and very detailed stages. The pogo mechanic is really fun and requires us to time and rhythm correctly to bounce on the enemies’ heads, break through the fragile blocks, and avoid the spikes. One of the additions in the remaster is a new option called the “Mild-Mannered” difficulty level that is less harsh than the original one for newcomers, but does not take away from the core experience.

The greatest thing about the game is the enhanced story; all of the five levels that everyone remembers, the Amazon, Transylvania, the African Mines, the Himalayas, and the Moon, now have been view combinations of carefully drawn animated scenes with the full original voice cast. These include, among the rest, Alan Young as Scrooge and Tony Anselmo as Donald Duck. Also, there is a new dialogue that both develops the treasure-hunting story more and expresses the loving, humorous relationship within the family that is at the center of the story.

The player can find “Level Treasures” all over the different levels, which are collectible gems, artifacts, and blueprints that lead to a great deal of bonus content, such as high-resolution concept art, original and remastered music tracks, and intriguing developer commentary that sheds light on the game’s origin.
