Game Overview
Mushroom Season is an utterly fantastic foraging simulator that benefits from survival mechanics, ecological exploration, and a pinch of the magic of reality, while it has at its core. It is set in a colourful, procedurally generated forest that was full of bioluminescent fungi and secret places where the players go deep into the shoes of a mycologist who was still there and had the knowledge of the mystery of the wood. The game brought each day with its weather and the seasons changing constantly—spring rains growing delicate morels, while the autumn frosts uncover the rare truffles that were hidden under the oaks that were the highest in the forest. The game’s system requires extensive study of spore prints, gill structures, and habitats, as toxic lookalikes pose a risk of death if players mistake the species.
Apart from just picking the items, the players can also cook the elixirs from the chanterelles that they have traded with the herbalists of the villages, who are eccentric, or they can even grow the relationships with the creatures of the forest, i.e., they can strike friendship with squirrels who are the ones that lead to hidden patches or they can placate the boars that are the ones who guard the territory. They can share the porcini they have with them. A day-night cycle has been introduced, which brings the foggy, drained of colour mornings where the spectral mycelial networks are flashing below the feet as if they were no more than a wink to the forgotten secrets of the local folklore.
Through its calm yet tense play, where a single slip of hand could mean a hallucinogenic poisoning or an encounter with the enigmatic “Fungal Warden”, Mushroom Season is a love letter to nature’s quiet mysteries, rewarding patience, curiosity, and respect for the unseen world beneath your feet.
