The gameplay of Pink Noise is a psychological horror, as the player’s decisions have an impact on the story and the character’s survival. The story is developed by film dialogue, interactive moments, and VHS-based scenes as you wander through the foggy town of Riverwood. Furthermore, the game is nonlinear, and relationships and story consequences vary based on your choices throughout the game. You are tasked with guiding a group of teenagers in their quest to uncover clues, complete puzzle sequences, and experience psychological horrors associated with each of the characters, in an attempt to control the group, while confronting a cursed videotape. The retro styling and 90s vibe also add a sense of tension and immersion to the horror experience.

The gameplay also encourages strategic thinking as decisions made in the game can impact later events and player interactions, regardless of their size.
