Game Overview:
In Uninstall Simulator, players get to experience the life of a digital cleaner who has been hired by an operating system that has become self-aware and infected with malware. This system is so developed that every file, app, and even the hidden processes are living creatures trying to save their existence. The game masterfully combines dark humor with a horror resource-management. The main gameplay centers on the concept of “forced deprecation.” Armed with an awkwardly huge heat-generating “scrub-gun” that releases focused deletion rays, the programs you attack fight back with their own defenses. For example, a video player creates buffering zones that make you slow, a crypto-miner throws fragments of encrypted wallets that detonate upon contact, and a social media app fills the screen with pop-ups that physically push you away from its icon.

Your environment is a never-ending and weakening “registry maze, ” which is basically a highly imaginative 3D map of the main folders of the system. In this environment, folders make sounds of pain, DLL files behave like spiders and move on the ceiling, and system restore points are protected by a menacing “antivirus exoskeleton” that considers you the actual virus. The “quarantine cage” feature is pivotal in the game; rather than deleting the processes, you can trap them in energy cages and then “force” them to confess their dependencies, which uncover background services that will crash if you remove their parent application. These dependency statements help you decide among three methods of uninstallation: use of force (affects adjacent files), surgical (involves target minigames), or negotiation (the app willingly uninstalls itself after you agree to spare its favorite child process).

The game takes players on a tour of five “bloatware biomes, ” which are: the Adware Swamp (pop-ups resemble carnivorous plants), the Toolbar Graveyard (dead extensions come back as skeletal tooltips), the Driver Crypt (hardware ghosts from the old times that ask for sacrifices in the form of RAM), the Startup Nursery (healthy programs that cry when deleted), and the Kernel Abyss (the place where deleting the wrong process causes a bluescreen disaster).
