WWF SmackDown! 2: Know Your Role (2000) is a wild, high-energy wrestling game that conveys the Attitude Era in all its mad glory. The game further elaborates on the first game with more advanced mechanics such as an enhanced grappling system that permits more natural chain wrestling, lethal signature moves, and interactive environments—like fighting through the crowd or hitting opponents with steel chairs. Season Mode is the WWE theatre at its best, allowing you to select from an enormous roster of legends like The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and Triple H and play as you like, vying for championships, making friends, and betraying enemies on a branching plot packed with backstage interviews and scripted angles.
The types of matches are very different—ranging from hardcore weapons bouts to ladder matches and Hell in a Cell—and they all need different strategies and brutal finishers to win. The create-a-wrestler mode is very detailed for that time; it can change many things in minute aspects such as the move sets, entrances, and even the taunts. SmackDown! 2 is a game of fast-running action, the legendary commentary by Jim Ross and Jerry Lawler, and the unpredictable AI that makes every match feel like a live WWE broadcast. It remains a fan favourite, a classic that set the bar for wrestling games.
