Game Overview
WWE 2K14 is a professional wrestling simulation game that offers a careful, timing-dependent grappling experience, moving away from arcade-style fighting and toward a more realistic version of televised sports entertainment. The main aspect of the combat is based on a "Predator Technology" grappling system in which offensive and defensive actions are determined by the context of your positionโsuch as whether you are standing, on your knees, facing the opponent, or have them pinned against the ropes or turnbuckles.
The way the game progresses is by gradually weakening particular body areas (the head, the arms, the torso, and the legs) through aimed strikes and grapples, a process which in turn increases the power of your special finishing moves and also makes submission holds more effective. Players need to become skilled at the reversal system, which depends on accurate button-timing to defend against attacks; if you fail to time a reversal correctly, you will end up vulnerable to powerful chain grapples and heavy slams.

The game includes a wide variety of match types, all having their own particular rules and ways of winningโranging from regular singles and tag-team matches to wild multi-person events such as the Royal Rumble (in which 30 superstars enter one after another) and the devastating Hell in a Cell (an enclosed steel structure that acts as both a cage and a weapon). Every wrestler has a momentum meter that gets filled up when you carry out effective moves, entertain the crowd, and carry out high-risk aerial attacks; when it is full, you can use a "Wake-Up Taunt" to make your opponent become dazed and then carry out your finishing move in an attempt to get the pinfall.
Nevertheless, finishers can be countered or kicked out of, which adds a great deal of dramatic tension to each near-fall. The course of the match changes dynamically with the referee's position, the breaking of the ropes, and outside interference. At the same time, the weapons' physics allow chairs, ladders, tables, and sledgehammers to be used and broken in spectacular, physics-based sequences.
